State Rep. Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) has launched his annual Summer Reading Program with the theme "Get in the Game". In a recent announcement, Windhorst highlighted the program's benefits, stating, "My summer reading club is a great chance for students to keep reading throughout their summer break, keep their literary skills sharp, and earn a ticket to watch a baseball game with me and their fellow summer readers."

The program, aimed at 1st to 4th graders in the 117th district, incentivizes students to read by offering a free ticket for themselves and a parent/guardian to a Thrillville Thrillbillies baseball game. Windhorst expressed his excitement about the initiative, mentioning, “I’m thrilled to be joining up with my colleague State Rep. Paul Jacobs to host summer readers and a parent at Mountain Dew Stadium for a Thrillville Thrillbillies game as a reward for the students’ hard work.”

Students who read at least eight books over the summer will not only attend the baseball game but also receive an official Illinois House of Representatives Certificate of Recognition. The special "Night at the Ballpark" event will take place at Mountain Dew Park in Marion in July 2024.

To participate, students are required to complete registration forms and submit them to State Representative Patrick Windhorst. Forms can be sent to 2 N. Vine Street, Suite 5A, Harrisburg, IL, 62946, emailed to Windhorst@ILHouseGOP.org, or filled out online at repwindhorst.com/rep-windhorsts-summer-reading-club.
